Peel Regional Police say a Mississauga couple in their 70s is dead after an assault at their home Thursday night, and investigators are now looking for the couple’s 46-year-old son.
Police were called to the area of Hurontario Street and Lakeshore Road East shortly after 7 p.m. after reports of a disturbance. Officers found a 70-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries. They were taken to hospital, where they later died.
Mississauga assault leaves two dead
At a news conference at the scene, Peel police Insp. Mike Mavity said the victims were found inside a home near Lakeshore Road and Hurontario Street. Other reports place the address on Briarwood Avenue in the Port Credit area.
Mavity said the injuries were not caused by a firearm. Other outlets reported police have not confirmed the cause of death, but did say no guns were used. Early reports Thursday night described the two patients as in critical condition and “fighting for their lives” before police later confirmed both deaths.
Mavity said the couple are Peel Region’s 10th and 11th homicide victims of 2026.
Peel police identify Jordan Sangwin as suspect
Police have identified the couple’s son, 46-year-old Jordan Sangwin, as the suspect they’re trying to find.
Mavity told reporters investigators believe Sangwin did not live at his parents’ home. Police have also said they don’t believe he has a firearm or that he left the residence with a weapon, even as they continue to describe him as “armed and dangerous.”
That combination can sound confusing, but the message from police is consistent on the key public-safety point: do not approach him.
Suspect description and public safety warning
Police describe Sangwin as a white man, 5 foot 10, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, checkered shorts, and a baseball cap.
Peel police are asking anyone who sees him to call 911. Mavity also said police are encouraging Sangwin to contact a lawyer and turn himself in.
Police have also said they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the public, even while warning people not to approach the suspect if spotted.
Timeline of Thursday night in Port Credit
The initial call came in shortly after 7 p.m., according to police. Peel paramedics told media that emergency units arrived just before 7:20 p.m. and performed life-saving measures on a man and a woman at the scene before transporting them to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Through Thursday night and into the overnight update, police confirmed the couple had been pronounced dead and that the investigation was ongoing.
What residents can expect next
Police say people in the neighbourhood should expect a continued police presence as investigators gather evidence and collect video from the area.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact Peel Regional Police, and police continue to stress that the suspect should not be approached by the public.
