TL;DR: We aim to make The Canada Report readable, navigable, and usable for as many people as possible. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we welcome feedback.

We want everyone to be able to read and use The Canada Report. We're actively working toward alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards across our website and newsletter.

Accessibility isn't a one-time checkbox — it's an ongoing process that evolves as our site grows.

What We Currently Support

Our current accessibility commitments include:

  • Readable text — clear typography, sufficient colour contrast, and no text-as-image for core content
  • Keyboard navigation — menus, links, and interactive elements are designed to be usable without a mouse
  • Plain language — short paragraphs, clear headings, and summaries that prioritize understanding over jargon
  • Motion sensitivity — minimal animation and no flashing elements that could trigger discomfort or photosensitive reactions
  • Semantic HTML structure — proper heading hierarchy and meaningful markup for screen readers
  • Descriptive link text — links explain where they go rather than using "click here" style phrasing

Known Limitations

Some older posts, third-party embeds, or externally sourced content may not fully meet accessibility standards. When issues are identified, we work to improve or replace them where possible.

We also rely on a small number of third-party services (our newsletter platform, analytics, search tool) whose accessibility we don't directly control. We aim to choose providers that prioritize accessibility, but if you encounter an issue, please let us know.

Request an Accessible Format

If you need content in a different format, email info@thecanadareport.ca with the subject line Accessibility Request, and include:

  • A link to the page or article
  • The format you need (for example: large-print PDF, text-only version, alternative description)
  • Any assistive technology context that would help us understand your needs

We aim to respond within two business days whenever possible.

Report an Accessibility Issue

If something isn't working as expected, your feedback helps us improve. Email us at info@thecanadareport.ca with the subject line Accessibility Issue, and include:

  • The page or article link
  • Your browser and device
  • What you expected to happen and what happened instead
  • Any assistive technology you're using (screen reader, keyboard navigation, voice control, etc.)

Accessibility is a journey — thank you for helping us make The Canada Report better for everyone.
