A pair of suspicious deaths, one in western Quebec and one in Ottawa’s Lowertown neighbourhood, are being investigated as connected by police in both jurisdictions, Europe Says reported.
The case spans two scenes: a single-vehicle collision near Papineauville, Que., before dawn Saturday, and a home on Guigues Avenue where another person was later found dead.
Two Deaths Under Investigation
According to Europe Says, police in Ottawa and Quebec are investigating two suspicious deaths they believe are connected. One death followed a crash east of Highway 50 near Papineauville, while the other was discovered hours later inside a home in Ottawa.
The identities of the two victims have not been released, Europe Says reported, with police saying that next-of-kin notifications are still pending. Police have also not disclosed how the two deaths are connected.
That absence of detail has left the public with only the outline of the investigation: two deaths, two locations, and a police belief that the cases are linked.
Crash Near Papineauville
Europe Says reported that Sûreté du Québec officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday to a single-vehicle collision east of Highway 50 near Papineauville, Que.
Inside the vehicle, police found a person who was injured. According to Europe Says, that person was taken to hospital and died shortly afterward. Police considered the injuries “suspicious in nature,” the outlet reported.
As the Quebec investigation continued, the Sûreté du Québec requested assistance from Ottawa police, according to Europe Says. That request shifted part of the investigation across the Ottawa River and into the capital.
Lowertown Home Searched
Europe Says reported that Ottawa police went to a home in the 200 block of Guigues Avenue in Lowertown at 11:09 a.m. Saturday. There, officers found a second person dead.
Ottawa paramedics said the person found dead in the home was a woman, according to Europe Says. No further identifying information has been released.
The Lowertown address became the second known scene in an investigation that began with the early-morning crash in western Quebec. Europe Says reported that police have not said how the person found in the vehicle and the woman found in the Ottawa home are connected.
Police also cautioned that residents could see investigators in the area. “Residents may notice an increased police presence in the area as investigators continue to gather evidence and speak with potential witnesses,” police said, according to the report.
Public Safety Assurances
Despite the seriousness of the investigation, police said there is no ongoing threat to public safety, Europe Says reported.
That statement is one of the few firm assurances released so far. Police have not named the victims, have not disclosed the nature of the suspicious injuries in the Quebec case, and have not said what led investigators from the Papineauville-area crash to the Lowertown home.
For now, the investigation remains defined as much by what has not been released as by what has. Europe Says reported that Ottawa and Quebec police continue to treat the two deaths as connected, while withholding the victims’ identities until family notifications are complete.
