Brampton Auto Repair Shop Fire Under Investigation
Peel police are delving into a suspected arson case at a Brampton auto repair shop after a fire engulfed multiple vehicles early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at M. Johal Auto Repairs Ltd., located near Rutherford Road South and Orenda Road. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 3:15 a.m., finding two tow trucks, a car, and a box truck ablaze.
Surveillance Video Captures Suspects
Surveillance footage obtained by CBC News shows two individuals at the scene, with one pouring a liquid, believed to be gasoline, on the tow trucks. The video captures the moment the liquid ignites, setting off a fire that quickly spreads to nearby vehicles. One suspect was described as wearing a white shirt and grey pants. Police are actively searching for these individuals and are asking the public for any additional information or video footage.
Connection to Previous Arson Incident
This fire marks the second incident in the area within a fortnight. Just last week, a similar fire damaged or destroyed up to 16 tow trucks at another auto yard on Rutherford Road and Glidden Road. Police are investigating potential links between the two events, as both fires were reportedly set deliberately in the early hours of the morning. In the earlier incident, multiple suspects were seen fleeing the scene.
No Injuries Reported, Public Safety Assured
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either fire. Const. Amanda Steenson of Peel police assured the public that there is no immediate threat to safety. However, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind these acts.
Community Urged to Assist Investigation
Peel police are urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward. Those with details or additional surveillance footage are encouraged to contact the police directly or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. As the investigation continues, the community's cooperation could prove crucial in resolving these cases.
