Arrest Made in Highway 39 Shooting Near Weyburn

In a tragic turn of events on September 12, 2025, Tanya Myers, a 44-year-old woman from Saskatchewan, was fatally struck by stray bullets while travelling as a passenger in an SUV on Highway 39, just northwest of Weyburn. The Saskatchewan RCMP have now arrested a 42-year-old man from Regina, Chris Fahlman, in connection with the incident. Fahlman faces multiple charges, including manslaughter with a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

The shooting, which also damaged a second vehicle, left the local community in shock and fear, with many residents avoiding the highway section where the incident occurred. The RCMP have confirmed that the shooting appeared random, with no known connection between Fahlman and the victims.

Details Emerge from the Night of the Shooting

Andrea Morrice, the driver of the SUV in which Myers was killed, recounted the harrowing experience. Morrice and Myers had spent a pleasant day in Regina, enjoying activities like a psychic fair and sharing French fries. Their drive back to Weyburn turned tragic when a loud bang was heard, and Myers, in a state of panic, clutched her chest and said, "It feels like I’ve been shot."

Despite Morrice's immediate call to 911, paramedics were unable to revive Myers, who was found without a pulse. Morrice later discovered bullet holes in the SUV, confirming the tragic reality of the situation. Describing Myers as a homebody who cherished her family and cats, Morrice expressed disbelief and sorrow over the incident.

The arrest of Chris Fahlman has brought a mix of emotions to those affected by the shooting. Morrice, initially hoping for forgiveness, found herself angry after seeing Fahlman's social media posts about the incident. She expressed a desire for closure and understanding as the legal process unfolds.

RCMP Inspector Ashley St. Germaine stated that the investigation, which lasted seven weeks, led to Fahlman's arrest. However, details about how the police connected Fahlman to the crime remain undisclosed. St. Germaine also mentioned that there is no evidence suggesting a hunting accident, a theory speculated by some locals.

Fahlman's lawyer, Robert MacKay, has urged the public to withhold judgment, emphasizing the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. As the case proceeds in court, the community and those directly affected by the tragedy await further details to understand the full scope of what transpired that fateful night on Highway 39.
