New Westminster Man Sentenced for Sexual Assaults

In a case that has captured the attention of many in British Columbia, Adam Haber, a former fitness trainer at the Last Door Recovery Treatment Centre, has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexual assaults committed over a decade ago. The New Westminster Police Department began investigating Haber in early 2023 after receiving allegations from women who had been clients at two local recovery facilities, Last Door and Westminster House. These facilities, while separately owned, collaborate on community support initiatives.

Investigation and Conviction Details

The investigation into Haber's actions was initiated by the New Westminster Police Department's Major Crime Unit, with support from the Specialized Investigations Unit. The case gained momentum when 11 women bravely came forward to provide statements about their experiences. Initially, Haber faced three charges of sexual assault, but by the time of his trial, this was reduced to two counts. In February 2025, the court found Haber guilty, and he was sentenced on November 7 of the same year.

Haber's involvement with the recovery centres began in 2010, initially as a client and sponsor, before transitioning to a role as an independent contractor and fitness trainer. The assaults took place in 2012 and 2013, involving former clients of Westminster House. The Last Door Recovery Society, where Haber was employed, acted swiftly upon learning of the allegations, terminating his contract within 24 hours.

The case has had significant repercussions, not just for Haber, but also for the community. In addition to his prison sentence, Haber has been added to Canada's Sex Offender Registry for the next 20 years and faces a court-ordered weapons ban. The New Westminster Police Department has expressed gratitude to the women who came forward, acknowledging their courage in sharing their stories.

Sergeant Andrew Leaver of the NWPD highlighted the bravery of the victims, stating, "We’re inspired by the bravery of the women who came forward to speak to investigators about what happened to them. Thank you for trusting us." The department continues to offer support through its Victim Assistance Unit, emphasizing the availability of compassionate and confidential help for those affected by sexual violence.

While the legal proceedings have concluded, the impact of this case continues to resonate within the community, serving as a reminder of the importance of supporting survivors and holding perpetrators accountable.
