Arrests Made in Mississauga Home Invasion Case

More than a year after a deadly home invasion in Mississauga, Peel Regional Police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the crime. The incident, which occurred on October 1, 2024, resulted in the death of 55-year-old Ruo Zhou Wei. Wei was shot during a confrontation with four masked intruders who entered his home near Central Parkway West and Confederation Parkway, demanding money and valuables. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Wei succumbed to his injuries.

Details of the Investigation and Arrests

The investigation, described by police as "complex and lengthy," involved extensive canvassing over more than 80 kilometres, forensic analysis, and multiple search warrants. The efforts led to the identification and arrest of the suspects. Among those charged are Sonam Wangchuk, 25, and 21-year-olds Muhammad Rahimullah and Tenzin Lama, each facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm. Additionally, three older individuals, Kang Lu, 69, Kwok Chik, 65, and Xi Chen, 64, have been charged with manslaughter.

Firearm Charges and Additional Arrests

A seventh individual, Tenzin Jungney, 21, faces several firearm-related charges, including unauthorized possession and careless storage of a firearm. Police have also seized a firearm believed to have been used in the crime. All seven suspects are currently in custody, awaiting court dates and potential bail hearings. The charges have yet to be tested in court.

Community Impact and Police Response

Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich emphasized the profound impact such crimes have on the community, stating, "These crimes cause profound and lasting trauma for families and undermine our community's sense of safety." He praised the dedication of the officers involved in the investigation and highlighted the importance of government support in bringing those responsible to justice.

Background on the Victim

Ruo Zhou Wei was a well-known figure in the Greater Toronto Area, co-owning two popular Asian grocery chains. His name had previously appeared in the news in 2011, following the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Fang Lin, in York Region. Despite extensive searches, Lin has never been found, and police do not believe her disappearance is connected to the home invasion.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Safety

Peel Regional Police continue to encourage anyone with additional information to come forward, either by contacting investigators directly or leaving an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers. The investigation underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in tackling complex crimes and the ongoing need for community cooperation to ensure public safety.
